Pupils pitch on the pitch

On Tuesday, 29 April, students aged 11-14 pitched their ideas for social ventures to young judges and partners in the directors’ boxes at Middlesbrough FC. This was a highlight of UnLtd’s work with school teachers in and around Middlesbrough to embed Social Entrepreneurship into the curriculum.

Three schools took part: St Peter’s, Sacred Heart and Redcar Academy. Unltd will be looking for more schools to engage with the programme in future.

We anticipated five Award Winners but were delighted to see that there were nine amazing ideas pitched to ‘Start Something Social’. They were so good that each will receive funding to start up their ventures. These nine Award Winners and their teams will form the first cohort to be supported under the programme.
Middlesbrough Football Club provided an excellent venue and a great team to work with the pupils throughout the day.

Thanks, too, to the panels of judges from partner organisations and our inspiring Special Guest Speaker: Amjid Khazir of Mediacultured.

Great success! We are embedding social entrepreneurship into the curriculum as part of the pilot programme of Start Something Social. We are working as part of the Cabinet Office’s Step up to Serve Campaign.
